Vice President Shettima defends Tinubu’s tax reforms, claiming that the goal of their inception was to help Nigerians

Vice President Kashim Shettima has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s tax reforms, arguing that they are intended to help Nigerians rather than hinder the country’s economy.

The Vice President said as much during the closing retreat of the presidential fiscal policy and tax reforms committee on Saturday in Abuja, according to a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Stanley Nkwocha.

The Tinubu administration was forced to halt and reevaluate Nigeria’s course due to the country’s fiscal dynamics, according to Shettima, who was represented at the event by the Office of the Vice President’s Special Adviser on General Duties.

“Our aim is still to revitalize revenue generation in Nigeria while maintaining a business that is both investment-friendly and globally competitive,” he stated.

The speaker conveyed assurance regarding the tax reforms committee’s capacity to carry out its mandate, acknowledging the notable transition from planning to execution.

The vice president declared that both the federal and state governments are prepared to assist in ensuring that the committee’s reforms are implemented successfully.

He restated the government’s pledge to supply the institutional backing required to incorporate these suggestions into the administration’s overall economic plan.
