INEC Set To Publish Edo State Governorship Candidates’ Data On Saturday

The candidates for governor of Edo State and their running mates will have their personal information released on Saturday, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Sam Olumekun, national commissioner of INEC and chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, revealed in a statement yesterday that the publishing will take place one week after the deadline for nominations under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act of 2022.

He said that the commission will make copies of Form EC9 available at INEC State Headquarters and the eighteen local government offices around Edo State, together with all academic records and other documents each candidate filed.

This will allow the public to view the personal information of each candidate. Olumekun urged Nigerians to carefully review the materials, stating that any candidate who took part in a party primary and has good reason to think the information the candidate provided is inaccurate may contest the nomination in a Federal High Court in accordance with Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.

“Since the party primaries ended, seventeen (17) Political Parties have filed their nomination papers for the Edo State Governorship Election before the special portal automatically shuts down on March 24, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.

Parts of the statement stated, “On Saturday, March 30, 2024, a week from the last date for the submission of nominations as provided in Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, the personal particulars of the Governorship candidates and their running mates will be published.”
