FG Invites Gumi For Questioning
The Nigerian Government says they recently invited the Kaduna based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, over his comments regarding the recent activities the bandits in the country.
This was said by the Minister of Information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Monday while addressing journalists at the State House in Abuja.
Mohammed Idris made a public saying that Gumi is not above the Nigerian Law, noting that the government has deemed it necessary to invite him for questioning.
According to The PUNCH NEWSPAPERS, the preacher volunteered to negotiate with the bandits who had kidnapped around 287 pupils (137, as alleged by the Kaduna State Government) from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in the state’s Chikun Local Government Area.
He believes that the President Of The Federal Republic of Nigeria His Excellence President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not make the same error or mistakes as the Previous President Muhammadu Buhari, who refused to engage in discussion with robbers.
Gumi had previously negotiated on behalf of state governments to release kidnapped individuals.
The abducted Kaduna children were released on Sunday, with the government claiming that no ransom was paid for their release.
“In keeping with Mr President’s commitment, no ransom was paid,” Idris stated following the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to Idris, the President praised the security agencies for ensuring the safe return of the abductees and promised that all those involved in the abduction would be apprehended and punished.
Speaking about the development, the information minister stated that security agencies will carry out their duties if they believe Gumi’s words are “reckless”.
“The government will stop at nothing to obtain the information necessary to fix our problems. The security agencies are up and running.
“Sheikh Gumi and any other individual are not above the law; if he has good and constructive proposals for the security authorities to consider, they will do so.
“But if they believe he is making hazardous claims, he will also be disciplined.
“Nobody is above the law.” Allow me to put it here. I’m also aware that he has appeared as a guest of security services to address inquiries.
“When you make remarks, especially to those that border on our national security it is incumbent on our national security to think ahead, and they are doing just that, no one is above the law guiding Nigeria,” he said.
