Nigeria Super Eagles Lose 2-0 To Tactical Mali
The Nigeria’s Super Eagles lost 2-0 to Mali’s Les Aigles in their second international friendly match on Tuesday night in Marrakech, Morocco.
It was a night to forget for the legendary Finidi George-led squad, which fell behind in the first half and laboured throughout to equalise only to lose another goal late on.
The AFCON 2023 vice champions had their wings cut by the tactically smart Malian side, with goals from teenagers El Bilal Touré and Kamory Doumbia on either side of the break giving Mali a memorable triumph and denying Finidi George his most desired second victory as Eagles temporary coach.
Nigeria’s Eagles were seeking to make it two straight wins with Finidi George after defeating Ghana 2-1 at the same arena on Friday.
The interim coach made four changes to the starting lineup that defeated Ghana 2-1 on Friday, replacing Cyriel Dessers, Benjamin Tanimu, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Frank Onyeka.
The result is a terrible setback for legendary George, who was hoping for another strong performance and result that would put him in pole position to succeed former head coach Jose Peseiro in a substantive capacity ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic in the summer.
